"I bet it would be easier on your truck and drivetrain when taking off if you had lower gears...and I also bet there's not much difference at all in fuel economy running solo."
I know the drivetrain did not suffer towing 28-29K with over half of the 65K towing with 3.42's and 68RFE. The gears in pic below sure would not have looked near new if there were stress towing that weight with the wrong gears. Trans fluid had at least 50K.
The Aisin gives you lower starting gears that is why I recommend it with 3,42's towing up to 27K or so combined.
As far as mileage the my 11HO RAM's towing and solo mileage with 3.42's was similar to my 15 with 4.10's. But a new truck the same as mine with 3.42's will get better solo mileage and the same towing.
