Wonder how the Mustang in question would do in an acceleration contest, between it and the new Dodge Hellcat ?
Good question... but I think I would have to give the nod to the Mustang.
I doubt it :) - BurbManExplorer IIThanks for that info, I didn't realize there was more than one way to build a crankshaft....I figured one design emerged as the "best" over the years and everybody used the same one.

What's a "flat plane crank"?
Look at 180 degree crank or flat plane crank.
One guy ran one at the track when I was young. It sounded like a Mazda rotary at 14 grand when it came by the front shoot. Really nasty sounding and very annoying. Kind of like finger nails on a chalk board! Back in the day it was said that there was no HP to be found in them. IIRC they were lighter though? - BurbManExplorer IIWhat's a "flat plane crank"?

With AWD the Mustang would launch from 0 like it'd been rear ended by a truck traveling at 60MPH. Hard to make that up in the 1320.ls1mike wrote:
97 SHO VS 97 GTP
Never been a big fan of the SHO, except for the fact you had the ability to row through the gears, but I have had three supercharged 3800 cars and like the article says...
"If you haven't yet figured out that we think the new Pontiac Grand Prix GTP handily whips the Ford Taurus SHO, then you're probably still contributing to the Committee to Elect Dukakis. Still, the SHO remains an impressive monument to Japanese-American technology. And for most folks, it's plenty rapid. But the Grand Prix GTP, despite lacking some of the SHO's sophistication, is not only considerably quicker and more pampering, it's a bunch cheaper every time you write the payment check."
The 96+ SHO's were a joke. Ford went from a 3.0 liter Yamaha V6 to a 3.4 V8 and gained 15 hp and about 400 lbs. They were automatic only, and were much slower and heavier than the outgoing model.
The only thing the 96-99 SHO had going for it (over the 3.0 Yamaha) was the exhaust sound. - TacoExplorer

Driver and traction aside, I'd give the hellcat the nod. However, none of the independent magazine tests are getting the kind of performance numbers out of the hellcat that dodge claimed, especially with the manual transmission. The outgoing 2014 GT500 ran better numbers even being down 45 horsepower, when comparing to the challenger hellcat. The GT350 will be fast, but that 707 horsepower will be a lot to overcome. The GT350 is not a straight line performance vehicle, it's more of a track star aimed at the likes of the Z28, BMW, and Porsches
I meant the 65 Mustang with 4 wheel drive would take the Hellcat in a drag race. As far as the 15 GT350 like you said it's more of a track car and I don't think it could take on the Hellcat in a drag race.
The Hoonicorn RTR (awd mustang contraption) would destroy the srt hellcat in a drag race. The GT350 probably would not take it but I don't think it would be as far off as the horsepower difference would suggest. catfishmontana wrote:
$52,995 base price on the GT350 and a GT350R model as well.
Not too bad....catfishmontana wrote:

- ls1mikeExplorer IINo, I agree, great looking car, my feeling is nny offering in this category from the big three right now is AWESOME...Heck even my "old" 2000 WS6 was better than just about anything put out in the "old days" Styling is a very personal thing, but you can't argue with numbers. :)
