I had a 2014 GMC Sierra CC 4x4 Z71 and loved it. Very quiet interior, good power, and the automatic 4x4 system is amazing. If the road is wet or anything causing bad traction, just set it to auto and it will drive like it is on rails. Probably the thing that I liked most about it. As a tow vehicle it was not so good. We bought a LaCrosse 329 (37 overall length and tall) and while it would pull and stop it, we never could get it to feel comfortable on the highways. Big trucks passing were not fun. Replaced it with a 2014 Ram 2500 Cummins. The Ram actually has a nicer interior and gets better mileage than the 5.3 GMC, but the Cummins engine and drive train is much more industrial feeling, but trailer control (pulling, stopping, sway) are much better. If you think that you are going to pull a trailer bigger than 5 or 6K pounds, get a 3/4 ton or above truck, if you are going to use it like a half ton the Silverado 1500 is a great truck.
