2015 Toyota Tundra question

In my opinion no stock mirrors on any vehicle are wide enough for towing. Period.

I agree... I had add on tow mirrors on my F150....

My F350 had towing mirrors and they were incredible...I would absolutely check the box and add the towing mirrors. $600.00 is a lot but it's just a small fraction of what you are paying for the truck... It may add $5-10 bucks per payment if you are financing.

As a side question... With all the newer tech out there, why the Tundra? I'm genuinely curious...I love the Tundra and if I could use a half ton it would be a serious contender for me... But I'm buying used... And a HD Something.

Thanks for the quick replies folks. Like I said, the stock mirrors on my 2003 are almost wide enough, but I suspect you're right that, though the 2015 may be better, they still won't be adequate. We've been using add-on mirrors on my 2003, and they're fine. I may just use them on the new one, but the optional tow mirrors would be nice. I'm not financing, but $600 extra on a new truck is not that much. I might even get them to give them to me to seal the deal ;)

Jeremiah, my trailer is under 5000 pounds, and my current Tundra handles pretty well, but it's at the upper end of it's tow capacity. The 2015, with the 5.7 liter V-8 and a tow package, has almost double the capacity, so I feel it'll be fine.

I'm a Toyota guy. If I were buying anything else, it'd probably be a Ford, and I may give one a look before committing.

My Max Tow option only cost an additional $335 and that included the tow mirrors.. They are power/heated mirrors, but you have to extend/fold them manually.

Mine are so good, I don't even need to extend them.. :) I've only got a 7' wide TT and they allow me to see everything behind the trailer.

Check the Payload capacity on the Tundra. I had a 2012 plenty towing capacity but very little payload capacity. I had to put extension mirrors on my 2012 Tundra. If I bought another one I would get the towing mirrors.

I run a 30' TT with a 2014 Hemi and never extend/rotate mine either. I previously had a 2006 Duramax with the slide/extending type and moved them a couple times, and the difference was very minimal. I'm largely confused by all these moving mirrors. I've found anything but the ones that just sit right against the door are more than adequate. Different strokes for different folks I suppose.

Sounds great! My brother is a Toyota man and would buy a Tundra in a heartbeat if he could.

I do need to clarify, my add on mirrors to my F150 constantly vibrated and were hard to see out of. The factory towing mirrors were rock solid and did a great job letting me see around my 8 ft wide trailer.

My preference is the fixed tow mirror for convenience and stability.

If I had to go with an add on tow mirror again I would purchase

These Aero 2 towing mirrors.

These are supposed to be rock solid and will work great with stock mirrors.

$600 installed is not that bad...but this is a DIY deal that can be had to 100-300 easily depending how permanent you want.

For a 24' TT, why not wait and see if you really need extended tow mirrors beyond the OEM mirrors?

Its good you are researching this ahead of time, but this topic alone should not decide which truck you buy. This is a grain of salt in the grand scheme of things.

Mitch, so you're telling me that the mirrors don't stay extended all the time? Do they telescope or slide in and out some way?

One objection I had to them was that this truck will be my daily driver, and I didn't want those mirrors stuck out there all the time. If they'll return to a more normal position when not in use, that's a real plus.

I know, but I'm just full of goofy questions. ;)

The mirrors on Mitch's F150 do periscope out but as you can see they do stick out farther while in the 'in' position.
I have the same mirrors and bought some aftermarket standard mirrors for $300 for when I'm not towing. Easy to swap out and now I have the best of both worlds.
