They are just using consistent/repeated technique when filling the tank each time. I don't see the problem.
What do you propose they do?
No two tanks are going to cause the fuel nozzle to shut off a the exact same time every time. If they filled the tank to the top each time would be more accurate. But they may spill a drop so that is not an option.
Only real accurate way would be tie a seperate fuel tank into system that can accurately be re filled to determine exact fuel used.
It doesn't matter if one tank consistently fills more than the other. Its irrelevant... THe key is to consistenly fill the same tank to the same (or close ot the same) level at each fill. Whether one fills to the top each time and the other always has a gallon of space left doesn't matter. As long as its consistent each time your only measuring what you are able to put into the tank. By using the same pump at the same station using the same filling technique (fill till click, wait 30sec, and top off)is about the best you can do in a test like this.
Yep - exactly correct - kw_00ExplorerNo surprise to me on fuel milage, though Newer doesn't always mean better. We had an 02 3500 duramax with over 250k when it got traded in. Was an awesome truck. Fuel milage was really good empty. For a dually with 4x4 and extended cab it would get 22 on the hwy empty all day long. Towing 14.500 pounds it would get around 11-12 in florida. Great truck, now being that said, think about how many guys are looking for the older DMax and Cummins trucks..... They are in high demand for economy and no emissions...I really like the new GM twins, nice trucks, my 09 is not old by any means only got 70k on it with the gas engine, no upgrading anytime soon for this dude....
- minnowExplorerI always wondered if it was better for the environment to place all these emission controls on a truck which forces it to use more fuel per mile than a truck with no controls that uses less fuel per mile. What is more harmful to the environment over the long haul ?
Probably a more accurate method of comparing fuel economy is put 10 gallons in a dry gas tank and run it till it quits and see how many miles you went. - Bionic_ManExplorerWell, I am as guilty of finding flaws in tests as anyone, but this method of checking fuel consumption seems about as accurate as anyone can reasonably do.
And I really don't think the other "what ifs" matter. Regens and epa requirements are a reality that isn't going away. - Cummins12V98Explorer IIII agree it's as good as THEY are going to do.

This is not that important to keep going on. Just watch and enjoy and forget is what I do. Lot more important things to consider in life.

What do you propose they do? - Turtle_n_PeepsExplorerImagine that. An engine with almost 100 more HP with A DPF getting less mileage than one that doesn't. What the hell did they think it was going to do? :S :R
