2016 Eco boost

Looking for feedback on towing with a 2016 F150 with Ecoboost and tow package. Possibly buying a TT (7000-9000lb) range

  • If the engine is in good condition, you should have enough power. The issue is at the upper end can the suspension handle that much tail wagging the dog (even if technically in limits).

    Which Ecoboost?
  • I would agree with the up to 7000 lbs, but not the 9000 lbs. Does the Tow Package include the additional payload CCC ?
  • I can't speak to a 2016, but I do have a 2018 F150 with the 3.5 EB. Tows my 7,000 TT really well. 9,000 is really pushing the limit for a half-ton. At 9,000 lbs, you're looking at 1,100 lbs+ tongue weight, plus the weight of the WDH. You'll likely run out of payload before anything else. The 3.5 EB is a towing beast, but the truck itself is still just a half-ton.
  • I predict you'll hear more about how that is too much trailer for a half ton than you will meaningful input germane to you question. But icbw.

    My only comment is 16 - 6 speed, 17 = 10 speed + more power.
The best 6 speed half ton trans out of the big 3, IMO, but unless the 16 was a "deal", I'd have to opt for a similar age with the 10 speed.
  • The truck’s max trailer weight and payload is? Tongue weight in the 800 to 1200 pound area plus hitch. What/who will you carry in the truck?
