2016 F150 3.5L Ecoboost

I have a 2016 F150 with the 3.5L Ecoboost and 3.31 gears. I'm new to towing trailers and will be making a trip this summer to tow a fairly good sized travel trailer back home with me. A 33' 7500# bumper pull, through mountains from Idaho to Texas to be more precise. I'm kind of cringing at the thought of it and have been doing some intense research on the subject.

I'm just curious if anyone has a 2015/2016 3.5L Ecoboost as their tow vehicle and what sort of towing they do with it (looking for anything comparable; actual user experience).

Thanks!
  • Definitely invest in a quality weight distribution hitch with sway control. Pulling a trailer of that weight with the lighter weight of your truck you'll want to avoid the tail wagging the dog.
  • Power is ok but seems heavy for a 3.31 rear end. Are you sure 7,500 pounds? Wet?
  • I have a 2016 and tow my track car (trailered) with no problems. The truck has a lot of torque (for a gasser) and did fine in the mountains. Per the manual, you need to burn premium fuel when towing.
The weight im pulling is 6500 pounds. No, it won't pull the weight a diesel will, but does pretty well.
