In all honesty, if price were the same between an EB F150 and a Hemi Ram, I think I would lean towards the EB Ford. Hemi is a great engine, no doubt, but the EB makes that power much lower in the band and is really a better engine for towing in the mountains. While I don't always tow in the mountains (Eastern US... so "mountains" is a little misleading...), I tow often enough that I like the power lower.
I'd choose a hemi ram over the Ford EB. Call me old school, but i just don't trust a forced induction engine over the long haul. I'm sure many are fine, it's just my preference. Ford tech maculoco on you tube has a few videos out about issues with the EB and newer F150s in general. He's an excellent ford trained tech, yet he chose a ram ecodiesel over an f150 when he bought a new truck. That's pretty telling to me. He has a video out on his ecodiesel page about why.
Both are good trucks, it's all about what each person values most in the end.

You need to go actively listen to the entire video and not from a brand perspective. You see i am a Ford man and have been for a long time now. But anymore these days I'm not brand loyal. I was considering a 17 F250 when i bought my ram but the Ford was so much more money for a truck with far fewer options it was not worth it. Plus in the end i liked the ram better anyway.
Ford tech maculoco's video does state he was dissapointed in his dealer, that is true, that was part of his decision. :) Hi, maybe you should give me some extra credit too; I was in the Army, I started working at new car dealerships in 1968, I was a mechanic, service advisor, and shop foreman. I was also a Mac Tools distributor for eight years. Sorry, I didn't make any public videos. I retired from a Ford dealer in 2008. :W
I was not questioning your background or experience. I was questioning your review of the content of the video and that's not changed.

The ZF 8 speed and air suspension combo is flawless for our annual 5 month nationwide towing application. The vehicle is made to tow and with no drama.

Here's a review on a 3.5 Ecoboost.... Notice the average fuel economy over a ~3k mile interval as well.

The Hemi comes in at about 15 MPG. And the EcoDiesel comes in close to 23.
According to the Motor Trend long term real world test from around 2 years ago, the F150 3.5 Ecoboost averaged around 14.5 mpg for the year and the Hemi Ram averaged around 15.5 mpg for the year. The numbers on the Ford might be a little better now for 2017.
I remember that review as well. Personally, I think it is a little silly to make a decision based on +/- 1 MPG. To me, the moral of the story has always been that while the EcoBoost is a good towing engine, it has little to no advantage over a V8 for fuel economy.
Not surprisingly, someone will come on and "know someone" who does better than what is reported.
