I meet those kind of people from time to time. Walking, on the bus, in traffic, at the grocery store. I think a lot of people have problems in their lives and it somehow helps them to lash out at random people for perceived attacks against them.

My prius owning neighbor once asked my wife to turn off the car. A coworker was bringing her home and they had been talking for 5 minutes while the car was running. He was very polite in asking and my wife was happy to indulge him.

I never run my truck uselessly but I will if I need heat or AC. I think diesels are different and they may be better off running for a short stop.

What people don't realize is that car pollution is just part of the problem. Airplane travel is much worse and I'd bet that people who own Prii(Prius plural?) travel by plane more than most pickup owners. Also cargo ships are terrible.

The real solution is an incentive. Tax gas and big engines even more. I pay extra on my registration because my engine is above 4L. Make gas really expensive and hybrids and aluminium cars suddenly become cost effective.

Make hybrids and elec cars cheaper and that will entice more people to buy them. Therefor less fuel burned and as the demand goes down so will the price. At least it sounds good:)
