I believe we are getting there soon. At least here near Montreal where gas is more expensive then in the US. Hybrids are still a bad choice for most people but calculations are getting closer and closer. Another little price hike on gas plus some lower prices on hybrids and the balance will shift entirely.
I sold my Acura MDX that did 15MPG on premium fuel in the city. Fuel efficient choice would be a small compact but wife did not want to trade MDX for that. So we are getting a Fusion Hybrid. Not cost efficient vs a normal Fusion but much better than the MDX with premium fuel and it makes my wife happy.
