2016 GMC Canyon Duramax MPG Test
This little grocery getter gets a 31 mpg on a 100 mile test. Not too shabby. Don't know the towing/GCWR spec on these so I really don't know if it's a viable puller. Link

I gave one a test drive and although the mpg's look impressive here, I was not impressed driving it. It was not nearly as responsive as the V6. Granted, it was not really warmed up and diesels definitely perform better at operating temp's.
Maybe Ford will do better with their Ranger.
