2016 GMC Canyon Duramax MPG Test
This little grocery getter gets a 31 mpg on a 100 mile test. Not too shabby. Don't know the towing/GCWR spec on these so I really don't know if it's a viable puller. Link

That low payload, what 1500lbs? is going to restrict it as far as towing
It will not be able to do this
Or this with the same capacity Diesel, but vastly increased frame and component strength The 31mpg sounds reasonable for the VM Motori as it is not the most refined engine around.
