- Nautique200ExplorerDepends on the transmission. The Aisin I have gets moving with ease. The 68 I had previously took a lot of RPM.

My Ram goes 10,000 miles between oil changes. I use it to haul my camper and a trailer. It goes through a tank of DEF about every 3,000 miles or so. Having a continuous level gauge is very nice. Having easy access to the DEF port is very nice too.
how big is the ram DEF tank? my GMC tank is 5 gallons and good for 5,000 miles towing, and 7,000 or more running empty. DEF tank level readout starts at 30% left which is good for at least another 1500 miles.
I tow with my truck 90% of the time that I am using it. I also have a lead foot.
5 gallon tank
I just looked at the Ram owners manual online. It say's 5.5 gallons for the DEF tank. I hear you really have to get on the execrator pedal to get the Ram/Cummins moving :D - Nautique200Explorer

I haven't used a full tank yet in almost 5000 miles. I've only towed about 600 of those miles, though.
I think the difference in the amount of DEF the three use isnt close to material in the scheme of things, unless you rupture your GM tank and it empties all at once. :B
LOL, or I can keep on trucking when you need to stop for fuel and def because I have a larger fuel tank and much better def usage.;) - IdaDExplorerI haven't used a full tank yet in almost 5000 miles. I've only towed about 600 of those miles, though.

Wow, that Ram is a DEF pig! No wonder they put the DEF fill where they did. My GMC, which btw has a DEF gauge as well, went 6650 miles until I got to the 29% DEF remaining or about 1000 miles left.
The DEF tank on the GM is 5.3 gallons. - ktmrfsExplorer II

The DEF tank was an issue for me when I looked at them. It wasn't the only reason I didn't buy a GM, but it definitely went in the con column.
While on the subject of DEF, Ford and GM both ought to add a DEF tank gauge too. It's nice to have a good idea of what you've got in there instead of just waiting for the idiot light to come on, which may not be at the most opportune moment.
Not really a big deal... I change the oil and fill DEF tank. I don't recall how the GM DEF level feedback works, but the Ford system starts warning the driver with 800 miles left. That's more than enough warning to locate some DEF and fill the tank.
