Another cause of the insane truck prices is the lack of used inventory.
The economy and c rappy diesels for those few years, 08-11 ish, made for a lot less trucks sold. (Cars too, but not to the same extent). More folks hanging on to older diesels and trucks in general.
Now for the last couple years, that used market has suffered. Prices up on used = prices up on new.
I've ALWAYS found used vehicles to be a better bang for the buck, but right now today if I wanted a new or newer truck, I can buy one form one of the high volume dealers at almost the same price as what everyone wants for a similar used truck with up to about 50kmi.
Add in the hefty tax here that has been tacked onto everyone's loans and the stupid "want it now even though I can't afford it financing" and even in this decent economy, many are upside down on their loans. So them guys all ask more $ when selling and the folks who are holding their titles price the same and next thing you know, 8 year old trucks with 100kmi have $30k asking prices, private party! With the dealers being even higher!
It's crazy and another economic slowdown will be what it takes to correct that market abruptly, or if God willing the economy remains strong, it will correct slowly.
