Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it still have bump stops? If the bags fail (haven't seen one yet that has) then the load would be on the bump stops on the axle, right? Ride would be worse, but you would still be scooting right down the road, wouldn't you?
By the way, don't most OTR trucks have air bags exclusively? Rarely see them fail... - ThreebigfordsExplorerNo problems here either on my 2015 F450, although I didn't use any reducer sleeves, just bought new 2 1/2" hitches. The 2" hitches from my F350 weren't rated as high as the new factory 19000lb receiver anyways, so it was time to upgrade.
- BedlamModeratorThe inside corners are radiused more than some other receivers. This will cause the stinger to hang up if its edges are too square. The difference is very little and will probably be worn away after initial use, but inserting for the first time may be difficult.
I had similar problems before when I lent one of my stingers to a friend, but it was due to corrosion in the receiver tube from infrequent use. - 1jeepExplorer IIyet all my hitch items fit on my previous ford 2.5 to 2" adapter and my current 2016 also has no issue accepting any shanks.
- SoCalDesertRid1Explorer IISo you're saying that Ford is not using a standard 2-1/2" sq I.D. receiver tube (which is just a seamless 3" sq O.D. x 1/4" wall structural tube)? They're using something else with some other dimensions?

Like Ford wants to be a farmer? I man outstanding in their field!
The adapter to go from a 2.5" receiver to a 2" is already a pain to many. I do not see the industry buying into a 3" setup that some hair dressers cousins ex-husband's friend had a dream about.
Hitch class:

Class V hitches are good to 20,000/2000.
Here is a Q/A from etrailer. Does Ford not provide a reducer with each vehicle?
Question: Is There a Sleeve For my 2-1/2 inch Ford F350 Super Duty Hitch So I can Use 2 Inch Accesorries
My new SuperDuty F-350 with factory tow package has a 2 1/2 inch by 2 1/2 inch receiver hole. My old hitch is 2x2. Do I buy a new one is there is sleeve missing or something? Thanks!

2-1/2 inch hitch opening are used on hitches that are Class V, and are designed to haul large heavy trailers.
In order to reduce your hitch down to a 2 inch diameter opening on your new Ford F-350 Super Duty you would need to purchase a Titan Reducer Sleeve 2-1/2 inch to 2 inch, part # 58102.
You should take note that Ford OEM hitches have a tighter/different radius on their 2-1/2 inch receiver tubes. To accommodate the OEM Ford 2-1/2 inch hitch, the corners of a ball mount, shank or reducer sleeve may need to be sanded down to slide into the hitch.
Do not remove any more material than necessary. Simply removing the paint or powder-coat is often sufficient. Never use a grinder to knock-down the corners, which may remove too much material and will also heat the accessory and could compromise the product's structural integrity. This is especially the case with cast accessories like larger weight distribution shanks.
I included a link to a FAQ on hitch classifications below for you to check out also.

I'm no fan of air bags. If one fails though, it's not the end of the world. Empty the air from the other one and continue on down the road until you can replace the broken one.
Sure with no load that's probably doable but with half a leaf spring setup that's there to prevent axle wrap I doubt will support any serious load.

The axle is magically not going to fall out.

What I see at our winter resort is both Ram and Fords have sagging rear ends when they arrived to check in.

But when one of those air bags fail, the sagging will be the cause of being stranded on the side of the road. And yes they will fail!
NOT true! If you let all the air out of any aftermarket bag will it keep you from traveling? NO
Fish have you EVER hear of one of the RAM air bags failing? I am sure it has happened but I have never heard of it. They are just Firestone bags. Maybe Semi's should be concerned??? - transamz9Explorer

I can and have run my bags flat and my truck has zero springs under it. SoCalDesertRider wrote:
