My '12 in tow/haul mode you simply apply the brakes to initiate the exhaust brake once and that's it. No brake application is every applied automatically.
I've had a 2011 Powetstroke, a 2016 and now the 2017. It is only the 2017 that applies the wheel brakes on CC.
Then that would be your Adaptive Cruise control feature.
