2017 ford F150

We bought an XL F150 5L V8, 4x4 at work and it has 2,300lbs payload. It has the 6.5 ft bed and crew cab. Very nice truck. I've seen a few f150s pulling small 5th wheels and they are sagging in the back from the weight.

I want to thank everyone for your comments. To answer a question about the mountains, I dont have plans to, but if I decided to I want the right truck. I have pulled this unit with a 1999 V10 Dodge Ram but have to get rid of it now, problems are coming. I am going with a 250-2500, After having the power and stability for so long I think I would be kicking myslf. Thanks again.

The FW in question is advertised as 1/2 ton towable. Some of the 150s could handle it, but not all. The new aluminum 150s have an increased payload, and some have higher axle ratings. The 10-speed makes them more capable also, even with the 3.55 gears.

If the OP chooses the right 17 150, it will work. The downside of being close to limits, is always having to load truck/FW carefully.

I've seen quite few F150's pulling the lighter/smaller fifth wheel trailers so it's not out of the question. Have you ever weighed the fifth wheel ready to camp? Will you be traveling in the mountains and how often?

I tow a 8,250 lb trailer with a suburban 8.1l vortec rated for 12,000 pounds. I hate it.

Having it over, I would never tow a heavy TT with anything but diesel power. Night and day.

I would seek out a Ford dealership that has commercial sales and speak with them. They know what a truck is vs the regular sales folks.

Stu. You are right about the salesman, I asked at our local Ford dealer and the answer was, I am sure it will, would you like me to see what's available in the area.

BuckHD150 hauled a similar 5'er fine with the Heavy Duty Payload package and the 3.5 EcoBoost that produces more torque and at lower RPMs than the V8 5.0 (a good engine). This was the prior generation. As an example my 2012 F150 has 2176 payload. Go to the Ford site and verify what the axle and payload ratings are for the 2017s. Odds are the salesman will not know.

A full tank of fuel is already accounted for when the payload rating is calculated for the door sticker, you don't add fuel in again.
