I'm interested to see how the new box frame works as well. Having owned more than a few of the early superduties, I can say that My 15' F450 rides much better than any of them. I too test drove the Ram 3500 DRW HD and thought it was a harsher ride than the F450. Although I also thought a 2016 F350 SRW that I test drove rode worse than the F450.
I understand why Ford made the switch, market pressures almost mandated it. But is it a better platform for hauling heavy?? I'm not so sure, how many 18 wheelers have box frames???
Truth is, you want SOME frame flex to avoid damaging the frame on uneven ground. Traction suffers as well in extreme uneven conditions, sure the Ram frame allows you to open the tailgate, but if your tires are off the ground...can you still move? Worse yet, what happens to that stiff frame in that situation with a 5000lbs load in the bed?? Something has to give.
Time will tell if the Box frame is a boon or a bust for Ford, I'm hoping it's a step forward, but I have my doubts.
