Your story sounds like us. We buy less than we can afford just because the middle models suit us. Stress makes for a bad purchase. something I tell young folks. My dad and father in-law were the same so I have a good excuse. Look at my signature and you will see how old of vehicle's we have.

My parents still have their 05 Chevy Duramax. It has ~55k miles so I suspect they'll still keep it although my dad has kicked the tires on a new Super Duty.
Not something I would do because I know what happens next.
