Totally different transmission. It's the same, 6R80, that's in the 150 but beefed up. Only in the 250 gas. It is referred to Torqueshift-G. As apposed to the current Torqueshift.
The 250 diesel and 350 gas/diesel get the current 6R140. - lbrjetExplorer

Makes no sense to use a different transmission in 250/350 gassers. What the heck is Ford thinking? lbrjet wrote:

The 6.7 PSD will most likely be putting out >450 HP and 1,000 ft/lbs of torque. The Torqueshift transmission is probably so beefed up it's no longer a good fit for a gas engine. Plus the new Torqueshift-G will help with improved fuel economy for the F250 6.2 Boss.- itguy08Explorer

Supposedly different gearing. Makes sense since gas engines go from 1000-6000 rpm while Diesels go from 500-4000 rpm. - lbrjetExplorerSpud said a different tranny in 250 vs 350 gassers. He or I didn't mention diesels.

2017 Superduty Order Guide
F-350 DRW now have 3.55 rear ends with a 4.10 optional. No more 3.73 for the DRW with diesel. Lots of changes and new packages. Didn't announce HP or torque for engines yet.
HMMM Ford must have been listening to me since I have been saying the 3500 RAM's only need 3.42 and 4.10's. 3.73's are covered on either side. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

48 gallon tank, that's a bonus!
A real shame they did not make the puck footprint larger front to back for the drop in 5th wheel hitch. Really limits the realistic tow rating. - Ford_ManExplorer3:55 gear is a bad mistake for a DRW. Can not wait to get my new 2016 Steel DRW Lariat with a 3:73 gear that is on order. My dealer has 26 Super Duty trucks now and has asked Ford to send him his allocation of 43 more of the 2016 Super Duty Trucks. He is afraid the price of the 2017 will be too expensive to sale. Saw the same thing with the 2014 going to a 2015 F150 aluminum.

That must be why the hitch is only rated at 27.5K. - takenExplorer II

The torque increase of the 2017 will offset the difference between the 3.55s and the 3.73s so that's a complete non issue. As far as cost, the increase is not as big as folks thought and people are lining up to order 17's. No issue there either. You ordered a 2016 and your dealer told you that you made the right decision. You're surprised at this? LOL...
