The rear frame section is different between a 2500 and a 3500
The difference is simply in how the coil springs mount, as opposed to how the leaf springs mount. They aren't engineered for different loads.
Yep, and the difference is very minor. Again this topic is blown way out of proportion.
I didn't say "They aren't engineered for different loads". I said they're "different".
The 2500 rear frame is routed outwards towards the tires in order to give clearance for the coils springs to be mounted on the inside of the frame, whereas the 3500 rear frame is routed in a straight line and the leaf springs are mounted on the exterior of the frame.
I think we know the pros and cons between the two different designs! :W
You sure about that regarding the frame? I highly doubt the frame rails are aligned differently. It would require different box mounts etc. Chris
For bed mounting the frame flares out by the tires and then back inwards towards the rear bumper so the bed mounts are identical.
Start at 1:02 and take a look. Even the shock mount to the frame is different. Watch to the end to see the various views. It's actually a pretty robust frame setup.
