I think the tailgate is very cool. I use my daily driver truck around the horse farm, and am all the time needing a small work surface at standing height.
Same when I am traveling. When I am one the road it's usually for at least weeks at a time, and often months at a time, so always having to do a little work on something or another.
It's not that complex of a mechanical system there, so I don't see it having any real problems in use or time.
