I wonder what the HD division guys at GM think of that marketing strategy?
Probably think it's just another marketing strategy
Well anyone with a grain of intelligence could then extrapolate that they (The GM 1500 diesel marketing team) are, in a round about way, praising the Cummins inline 6 in the Ram, and saying it's superior to their "V" design 6.6L HD diesel.
Kind of seems contrary to the usual automotive theme of "all of our stuff is the best" that they usually spout.
Anyway, it'll be interesting to see how it holds up being a clean sheet design engine with a relatively new transmission. - BillyBob_JimExplorer

Either that or they're thinking of recruiting some of the expert automotive engineers that are active on this forum lol. - Grit_dogNavigator

Bingo!
And if GM want's to really blow away the competition, bring on the HD Duraburb for real!
It's time. I'm still astounded that, in the market we're in right now and the fact that 90% of the HD SUVs are now old clapped out piles of ____ that GM or Ford, or even Ram hasn't put out a HD suv again.
Would make half of the bitsching about weight ratings and towing capacities on forums like this go poof and disappear! ib516 wrote:

Probably think it's just another marketing strategy- ib516Explorer III like how they praise the inline 6 design as being superior to a "V" design. I wonder what the HD division guys at GM think of that marketing strategy?

Anyone have a source that states the 3.0L Duramax has an aluminum block and a timing chain on the rear of the engine?
RCMAN,
If you watch the video on the link I provided go to ~3:40 and you can clearly see the timing chains.
As for a source for the engine block, GM Authority states the block is cast aluminum with iron cylinder liners.

- larry_barnhartExplorerdoesn't seem good to this carpenter either.

why do you know about a timing's best position? Chevman
The Chevy 3.0 Duramax has been delayed due to the EPA which is a shame, but not surprising. Also not a fan of the timing chain installed on the rear of the engine.

Larry,
I view a timing chain and it's tensioner as a potential serviceable item. In order to replace these parts it may require engine removal.
