True statements and 40mpg doing 70 on the highway does not seem plausible.
BUT observed numbers aside, I believe more like 30 mpg average is realistic and supported by several years of production of that basic configuration of the Ecodiesel.
The takeaway is yes vehicles are getting better mileage, especially trucks.
I have a 2016 Silverado 5.3 6 speed. In the right conditions it appears to knock down 17mpg cruising. Same config except 8 speed 2019 Silvy I had for a while was knocking on 20 mpg in ideal conditions (70mph, flat road, cruise on)
Not a huge surprise the diesels are 30% better mileage. That’s always been the case.
But as the numbers increase 30% means more. As way less fuel is used compared to lower mileage vehicles.
