Since a 6.7 truck pulled almost twice the weight just a couple minutes slower, I would think the 6.7 pulling 16K would be significantly faster pulling the same trailer as the 7.3 gas. Having said that, it was still very impressive. My old diesel of the same displacement could not come close.blofgren wrote:

I can see big fleet sales numbers for the 7.3 gasser for FMC.
Now... what will tell the tale on actual mpg out here on the road will be running three tanks on various terrains not towing then use the average as actual mpgs. Then repeat for a towing average mpgs.

- VERY impressive for a gas engine! For folks disappointed with the paper ratings, this proves why a fat torque band, and tightly spaced transmission gearings, is far more important than a peak hp rating attained at 7000 rpm.
Even though 4.30s were used, I'm willing to bet a 3.73 would post identical times. With 10 gear ratios, it's as simple as dropping 1 gear, and you'll be right at the big 7.3's hp peak again. - Pretty impressive!
- Liked the 89 Iroc but loved the same year Transam GTA. Regardless both really cool rides.... mustang ran fast back then as well with the famous 5oh....I had a few Pontiacs running with both the 5 speed 5.0 TPI and the 5.7 auto... raced a lot of my buddies. Smoked a 944 Porsche with the 5.7. Kid was so butt hurt he sold it a few months later... anyway impressed with that hill run... the 7.3 sure did well. Now it’s time for GM to stick the 10 speed behind the 6.6 and throw some 4.10 gears in while their at it.
