I thought GM laid off the designer of the Pontiac Aztec during the last restructuring a decade ago, back in 2008. Doesn't look like it now.
What Andre of that TFLTruck video deftly avoided disclosing was the liters and HP of GM's upcoming gas engine, but GM Authority reported two months ago that it will likely be 6.6L, rated at around 400 HP and 450 lbs TQ.
If true, then there is a bit of parallel irony of displacement matching, since the rumored GM gas engine displacement matches that of the diesel GM introduced at the turn of the century... 6.6L ... while at the same time, Ford is rumored to do the same, preparing to introduce a new 7.3L gas engine in 2020 that will match the same displacement of the diesel engine that Ford became favored for at the turn of the century.
The new gas engine displacement parallels in the same direction between blue and gold rivals are interesting trivia, but even more interesting are the parallel swaps, where Ford did away with a separate cab for the 3/4 and 1 ton pickups, while GM finally embarks on making their HD sheetmetal differ from their half ton. And Ram has done the same.
It reminds me of how, prior to 1993, Dodge had little round fenderettes to meet FMVSS requirements for their dually, while Ford had huge bedside hugging dually fenders. Then, when Dodge/Ram finally bulked up their dually bedsides, Ford, in 2011, adopted smaller round fenderettes. Funny how the manufacturers swirl about each other in either in these design choices.
Maybe that Aztec designer was finally given a satisfying golden parachute in GM's most recent downsizing. That front end will take a long time to get used to... quite unlike the headlights, hood and grill for the new 2019 Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD. Now that front end actually looks like a truck.
