Anything is a possibility or guess at this time.
Looking at your model given it has a Torsion axle (no external springs) which uses a molded under pressure chuck of rubber to act as a spring. With torsion axles the axle stub is on a arm and that arm twists the rubber. So, it is possible jumping a curb, hitting a pothole or even a badly bent wheel could do some sort of damage..
Or the rubber inside the axle tube just failed for no reason..
