Perzactly. And in concert with my previous point. Different coatings doo better in different conditions. And in the rust belt, I’d take a good lanolin or petroleum based coating over a quick dip e coat. However I’d take e coat if I wanted to protect it further, more permanently, IE with paint.
That said e coat is fine, not “better” except for appearance sake. But it’s kind of the devil in paint/coating systems. Remember all the “peelers” from the 80s/90s, particularly the ones with black “primer”? Yup, e coat. Not a good substrate for finiishes, for a couple different reasons.
Am I happy my Ram is e coat? Yup. Cause I need to repaint the entire chassis since it is almost as rusted as Fishes Chevy example. And I dont have to deal with stripping off any of that GM crud. But it’s also not holding up….so….
