20A electrical

We are staying at a campground that has 20A service. Does that take the same dog bone adapter as our electrical outlets here at home? I was going to call the campground but they're closed right now. We leave this weekend and I need to get a different adapter before then if we need one. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.:?
  • Actually, a true 20A plug does have 1 horizontal and 1 vertical prong,.to keep it from being inserted into a 15A outlet. 2 vertical proungs are 15A. I found out when I bought a 50 foot 20A extension cord and found that there no 20A to anything adapters. Ended up making some, cost me as much as the cord did.

Thanks all. I was thinking the 20A was the horizontal post and the vertical post without the option of another vertical post on the top. We have a good dog bone adapter for the outlets. Thanks for the clarification - the DW and I appreciate it.

Your right, it is but a 20 receptacle will also accept the garden variety 15A plug.

You are the bomb for posting that up, I bought an All electric car and am considering using RV sites to help charge me to get from Point A to Point B ;)

When a campground only says they have 20AMP SERVICE it may just be a single or double 20A receptacle installed in a weather proof outside electrical box like shown here.

Your 30A Trailer will have to use a RV 30A-15A long adapters if you want to plug the whole trailer into the 20AMP service. You will only be able to operate only a few of your different appliances in the trailer most likely that would be the converter/charger unit that only operates your ceiling lights and maybe one or two inside 15A Receptacles.

The large wattage items like the air conditioner or microwave will have to turned off or selectively used one at a time other wise you will be tripping the campground circuit breaker... Your circuit breakers will not trip.

This is what a RV30A-15A long Adapter looks like purchased from WALMART

DO NOT use one of these small round type RV30A-15A adapters. These are prone to get very hot on you when being used.
