Can it be done? SURE! You can buy 19.5 tires and rims, wedge sections of well casing between the axle and frame to level the truck, etc. etc.. If the truck is in reasonable nick, kept somewhat maintained, and driven defensively, it will be as safe as anything else on the road. No law is going to give you any hassle.
The most important question here is: After you've spent all that money on truck, camper, and upgrades, WILL YOU BE SATISFIED WITH HOW IT DRIVES?
You will have a lot of money tied up in this thing and you won't have a clue how it handles until it's all put together and you hit the road for your first trip. Do you really want to take a chance that you are going to HATE this $100,000+ rig, leaving your only option to take a huge financial hit by spending more money on upgrades that may or may not help, selling at a huge loss, or parking it?
19.5 tires have a harsh ride. Even with all the suspension mods, a 2500 truck is still going to "rock-n-roll" underneath a 4000lb camper. For some people that's "Just Fine(tm)", but it's intolerable to others. Do you know which you are?
Really, is there something in this 4000lb camper that you can't live without? What is in this 4000lb camper that you can't get out of, say, a 2500lb camper?
Thanks for your reply.. Here is the kicker my current camper comes in at 3800lbs wet, and I've never been scared or felt unsafe while driving it over the past 4 years. Just was wondering what other peoples reactions would be with my proposed new setup. I knew this would start a debate, and honestly I respect someone that can defend their point of view and make me think. As we all know it's a choice the driver has to make.
