My truck is a 1996 Dodge DSL 2500. With the tires and wheels stated on the door sticker, the maximum weight is stated to be 8800 pounds. I do all of my own work on the truck.
I have 19.5s, airbags, anti-sway bar with no overload springs. I have aftermarket brakes. My truck fully loaded with beer and water is 10400 pounds. Maybe I should consider myself to be an exceptional mechanic and driver. I purchased this truck in 2001, and put over 160,000 miles on it. I have traveled from California half way across the USA, up into Canada back through BC. Never have I had a problem. I will admit I am a tire (weight capacity) police.
To my knowledge, only Canada BC has any laws to do with the door sticker. I am so disappointed every time I read someone's post saying otherwise. :( When I ask for the vehicle code, the person with the misinformation does not respond. :@ When I read other post by the same poster, I do not take them serious. They have lost creditability.
I am currently considering a 2004 Dodge 3500 DSL 4DR 4x4. I am not displeased with my 1996 Dodge 2500, but it has 265,000 miles, needs paint and I would like a newer truck. The 2004 is being offered to me by a family member for a price I am willing to pay, and it only has 104,000 miles.
I found it interesting, the door sticker on the 2004 3500 is on the door, not the door jam. I guess if you had a 2004 2500 you could just trade doors to increase your load capacity. :R
My signature has my 1996 Dodge.
