You mentioned wife . Im sure you know if you don't get this right , being in a crashed or broken truck from being overweight is not going to be your problem.
A lot of math calculations going on here to try to convince yourself that this is a good idea.
Would you go to war with a .22 ? or are you better off with a little more knock down power ?
It's when the S...hits the fan you'll wish you had more firepower or more truck to back you.
1. There are many cracked wheels and sheared studs out there from carrying loads.
Recently , there was a poster here with cracked aftermarket lug wheels. Check to see if the DC wheels are lug or hub centric. I would question that DC weight rating by the wheel mfg. Carrying a heavy load, there are too many factors involved to make that a solid number.
2. I used a 2500HD to haul my AF 860 at 4300# . I had all the mods you mentioned (except the wheels, I used OEM GM wheels) and I felt unsafe .
Having a tc with a slideout made it taller and crosswinds were a problem on the softer suspension .
On occasion on moderately windy days, the wind would blow me very close to the railing while crossing bridges . It was always in the slow lane and that's the side my wife sits. See where this is going ? Height and water make her violent !
Had to sell that camper for a non slide lower unit. Keeping the load in the 3000#-3500# range felt a lot better and I was not over the rear axle limit. I ran bigger 265 75 16E tires at 3415# each.
Hahaha! First time I've heard camper weights compared to going to war!!!
