265/70/17 or 285/70/17

That is the question.
Does anyone have pics of what the 285 looks like on the 2006 2500 megacab deisel?
I currently have the 265 michilins highway but want to fill the gap from tire to fender.
I also want a more aggressive look. Post pics please.
Im leaning toward the general grabber AT2.

Lol I know what you mean about getting pulled over, but they pulled me over for going 2 miles over the speed limit on a downhill part of the road. Another time I was pulled over for having my tow mirrors up for towing but I had just left the campground to go to walmart for food. Literally a mile away from the campground. He followed me and I had to prove I had my tt at the campground. Just to add to that I am active duty military and it was memorial day weekend. The cop said, well I was never in the military so I dont give breaks. He still made me put my mirrors down before I could drive to walmart.
so, the love me state, common wealth of virginia can be a fun place to drive through.

Next time just tell him to right you a ticket for the mirrors being up and tell him to put the number of the written law on the ticket. I have never heard of a law forbidding a tow mirror on a truck to be up or extended. That Cop was bored and needs to do something like walk main street and write parking tickets.

  • Haha, if I ever got stopped for having tires 1 size bigger than stock, he'd have to haul me in with wet pants after I pissed them, laughing.
285-70s are nice size. If I had my choice I'd get 285-75s. Over 34" tall no leveling kit needed and gets the rims down a little if you're not towing super heavy.
I'm running 295-70s now and they clear no problem too. No leveling kit.
  • Tks everyone
    I decided on the
    general grabber at2 285/70/17
based on what passing thru is saying and
Being in maryland and having to drive to shenandoah va to get my daughter, im curious what the wonderful va highway patrol and page county rent a cops will say.
  • I have 285 on my 05 CTD, it looks better than stock 265. The 285 look like what should have been stock. Next time I will probably go one size bigger yet, as there is still plenty of room in the wheel well now.

I have no lift or leveling kit.
  • Be careful as in some states they are too wide and wont pass inspection because they clear the body of a vehicle. Stupid but interesting in VA.
  • This is the only pic I could find of my '07 Ram when I was running 285/70/17 Nittos. The 285s are a nice compromise of size/looks without losing any real towing ability.

  • The 285 is just over 1" larger than the 265, so I don't think it will do what you want. JMHO
  • No picture, but they are running 285/60 R 20's on the new models. Seems to be plenty of room in the wheel wells for those tires. The Firestone Transforce A/T I have seen on most of the new models is a 33.4 inch tall tire.
