This is going to be a VERY interesting test when Cummins has ALL it's emissions UNDER the truck in 2019 or 2020. Reports of LARGE increases in HP and TQ, yes still the simple 6.7 in line 6.
I spoke to a Lady at the Cummins plant tour in 2016 she was working on the 2019 project. I was surprised when she said it was still the 6.7.
I don't think there will large increase IF they do this. Maybe 10-15% increase at best. So far, EGR-less engines that are available are for Euro stage VI emissions since their NOx limit is less than US EPA Tier 5.
In order for Cummins to have LARGE increases AND meet emissions would require more pressure than the CP3 can provide and more injection events than the electronic solenoid injectors they use can provide. The GM and Ford diesels use higher pressure pumps and piezo injectors that are able to have more injection events to minimize NOx output at higher power levels. The Cummins 6.7L can easily meet and exceed the power levels of GM and Ford, but it cannot do it while meeting emissions. Doing so would require a new higher pressure fuel system and injectors and/or utilizing the SCR/DEF system a lot more.
I for one would rather Cummins stick this its current reliable fuel system and just increase power with an aftermarket tune like my heavy tow tune that puts as much power to the wheels as the Ford and GM does to the crank while still remaining safe and reliable .....just don't ask me to pass a smog test unless I return it to the stock tune. Luckily I live in a part of Texas where diesels are not tested.
