I am using 2x6 on front and tapered it, so it guides the camper when I lower it on the bed.
I also removed long rubber bumpers and replaced them with 3/4" stock of hardwood. This way the gap between cab and camper is minimal.
I have to concur, the aluminum bed front needs all the help it can get.
Don't use anything on my old truck but the camper bumpers but it's not aluminum either.
