I have a 2x6 across the front as well.
Also 2 short pieces of 6x6, one secured to each end of it and cut to angle back to the sides of the bed to act as a self centering guide when the camper bumps up against them.
Kind of like what's pictured above but laying down flat with the angle face fastened to the 2x6.
I posted picture here several times before but can't seem to locate it now.
Works great!
