^^^^ If you’re towing heavy enough to be getting 8 mpg your putting about 170 hp through the transmission. At 1600 rpm 170 hp is 560 lbft of torque where as at 1900 rpm the torque drops down to 470 lbft. I’d say both those numbers are pretty low compared to what the transmission is designed to take. The beautiful thing about having tall rear end gearing is you have the option of cruising at low rpm when the power demand is low and bumping up the engine rpm when the power demand is higher. The 4.30 gears in the f450 don’t allow for that.
