The Aisin handles the gearing. It has a nice low 1st gear to get the load moving even with a 3.42 rear axle ratio.
It has 3 intermediate gears for getting up to highway speed.
5th gear is for cruising with a load.
6th gear is for cruising empty.
Plus you've got *YES* power and torque from the Cummins engine.
You are correct, I read that exact same info on a diesel website....going with the 3.42's, get as much MPG's as possible!
