I can answer the op's question from personal experience.
My 2011 Ram Dually HO with 3:42's handles my 28K combined load with ease. So a 13 2500 or 3500 single rear wheel will work even better with the 3:42's.

With 6 nicely spaced gears my combo works very well. 25k and zero problems.
