You can see as good or better mileage pulling a big 5er compared to a smaller/lighter bumper pull simply due to the difference in aerodynamics.
I'll have to disagree with you on that one. A TT can have better aerodynamics than a 5er sticking way up in the sky. It comes down to frontal area. Wind is not your friend unless it's at your back.
I disagree with you. It depends on the 5'er. Mine is a mid profile and is way more aero dynamic than a TT. Also a 5'er can be closer to the cab when using a short bed truck, allowing the wind to stay higher when it hits the 5'er making it roll over the top easier. A TT sits a lot further behind the cab and is subject to more wind drag.
A big tall flat front 5'er is a different story, but today most 5'er are fairly aero dynamic.
