X2, for a few hundred dollars I would go with the 50A service and at least 1 15k A/C.

It depends on where you do your camping. If you're up in the mountains where it's cool even in the summer (it was 38 degrees here this morning, for instance), then you may find less use for 50 amps than if you typically camp where energy demands are higher.

30amp service is just that. 30amps. 50amp service gives you two legs of 50amp. 100amps total. As mentioned previously it will be distributed (split) among the outlets as well as the appliances, allowing two or more 15amp devices to be run at the same time.

The biggest problem we have with our TH which has a 30 amp service is that all of the wall receptacles are on 1-15 amp breaker. If you use an electic heater and a coffee pot at the same time, you pop the breaker.

I am in the process of making a second 30 amp entrance with two circuits. One circuit will be for additional receptacles in the garage and kitchen areas and the second will be for a second ac in the garage area if desired. By wiring up this second entrance, I will have the option of plugging into two 30 amp connectors or one 30 and one 20 amp using an adapter on the second cord or plugging into a 50 amp with adapter and 30 amp on the second. My last option will be to use a 50 amp wye adapter where two 30 amp 120v receptacles may be connected.

I agree with the others, if you have the option for a 50 amp connection, I would go for it.

We have the 50A and enjoy not having to think about what we are using. It is simple math. An AC takes around 15A, a toaster or coffee pot around 10-12A, a microwave around 10A, electric water heater 8-10A and not sure about fridge on electric. I usually don't have an issue on 30A but recently tripped the 30A breaker running the AC, microwave and TV. I guess the electric water heater kicked in or something. Go 50A!

Will the 50 amp service also prep for a 2nd A/C unit? Also if you can get a heat pump instead of a regular A/C unit it might extend your season with out sucking gas.

I'd also suggest the 15k instead of a 13.5k A/C unit for that size trailer.

We spent the 4th in Mystic CT and glad we had our 2nd A/C unit. I understand it tends to cool off at night in the east but I like being comfortable.

I agree, go with the 50 (if its not exorbanent to upgrade). With 30 we are always checking the EMS-HW50C readout, with 50, I never have to worry.

50 Amp. Can you get by with 30 amp, yes. But what I have found is my A/C just plain works better when there is an abundance of current provided to it. If you are using 30 amp and your A/C and water heater are both running/heating There may not be enough current draw to kick the breaker but there also may not be enough current available to properly run your A/C.

On a permanent site with 50a service, it would be silly to even think 30a…

You can get by on 30a or not worry about it on 50a…
