30A Surge Protector Recommendations

I put the hard wired Progressive Industries HWC-30 in my TT. I cheaped out and didn’t get the remote display. Mistake.
Only problem is it does it’s job well. No ground, inverted polarity on the mains, NO POWER passed. No workarounds. Had low voltage at one place, it kept shutting off power. I suggest having a bypassable plug so you can get power in those odd cases IF you determine the risk is worth it.

Get an ems not a surge protector. Much more likely to have low voltage at a campground then a surge. I have the progressave industry portable one. And as stated above found crossed wires, open grounds.

The portable units such as the EMS-PT30X(50X) are not considered by Progressive to be field serviceable, only the hard wire series (which I own) is field serviceable - open a portable version and you'll instantly void the warranty.

That's why the company insists any portable unit be returned for repair or replacement whereas with a hard wire version they will mail you the parts required to fix it yourself.

Not sure on the Progressive, but the Watchdog has a replaceable surge module. You can replace it yourself, I think the progressive has to be sent in. Maybe someone else knows for sure.

yup. couple of things about this unit
1) it has on several occasions caught an open ground at a campground,
2) if you have an unbonded generator with the remote you can turn the system off and bypass a ground/neutral bonding plug for the generator. Need for a EMS unit with a generator is minimal.
3) While I haven't caught real low voltage with it, it has occasionally shown the voltage getting down during hot days at a campground so I could at least pay attention.

I hardwired a progressive with display. Easy install. Don't have to worry about someone stealing it. Has saved my bacon numerous times from LOW voltage and improper wiring.

I would spend the money and go for the better protection. That is the Progressive EMS-PT30X (or hardwired version) or the Surge Guard 34930.

I had the Progressive unit for years and years. It saved me a few times. Last year, it finally died...while we were traveling. Picked up a lesser Surge Guard unit because it was all I could find in the small towns we were driving through. It was a POS! I wrote a nice complaint to Surge Guard. To my surprise, they sent me a new 34930 (the good unit!). Meanwhile I had purchased another Progressive EMS-PT30X online. But kudos to Surge Guard for their great customer service! Progressive has also had good customer service for years...don't know how it is lately. Just haven't had to deal with them. But they did replace the plug on my old one for free one time years ago.
