- GrandpaKipExplorer IIVery nice interior. But it makes me wonder if the buyers of these campers spend more time inside than out. We tend to cook, eat, and generally cool it on the outside. I'm more concerned with functionality over form when it comes to using the camper. Now, if the camper was my home, that's a whole nother thing. Then I'd have to find room for my Eames chair.

Hey Robert,
Here in the USA a van cab/cutaway chassis is just a pick-up truck without the normal utility bed. Suspension and drivelines are the essentially the same. And that was my point many posts ago in this thread....that 33' travel trailers with slide-out rooms are not likely to be pulled by little euro sedans like VW Passat's, etc. If the euro camping community buying public falls in love with slide outs like we here in the USA have, it's gonna take a prime mover that is adequate to yank it around.
You will find Vans and Cab Chassis variants will be the prime movers
This is a US Travel Trailer being transported by a European Company. GCVWR is 23,000lb roughly the same as a F250. GVWR, is as heavy as a F550 at 15,400lb - RobertRyanExplorer

Interesting vehicles but you need market volume before we see them here. Provided they meet our safety standards have the steering wheel on the correct side.
A person could always import one I suppose.
They are both LHD and RHD. Vast numbers of them ,they do the jobs of US Pickups. Anything bigger is handled by "Lorries"as the English call them - OlliExplorerEuropean trailers are balanced differently over the axle(s). Also, fuel costs more and taxes etc. on a pick-up are huge.
I'll just leave this here... - rbpruExplorer IIInteresting vehicles but you need market volume before we see them here. Provided they meet our safety standards have the steering wheel on the correct side.

I'm confused by the term GCVWR
I know what it means, and it applies to the max weight of a tow vehicle and trailer weight combined, but it doesn't make sense applying that term to just a trailer.- gmw_photosExplorer

And that is my point, I suspect we'll see them using trucks like that, rather than small sedans they have been using for their tiny and lightweight TT's.
Now then, if we could just get Nissan to bring that 3.0 V6 TD here to the US market. With the six speed manual. I'd be at the dealer tomorrow if they would.
Europe is the land of the Van and it's Cab Chassis alternatives, like the IVECO Daily
Towing a 36 ft 5 ver
A Mazda Diesel Pickup, rare in Europe but used here a lot with a 29ft long 5ver
Ford Transit Cab Chassis Truck Camper towing tiny boat
An IVECO Cab Chassis 4x4 towing a 28ft " Australianized" US Caravan, Smallish US Company has done a lot to try and make it's products acceptable here
Cab Chassis variant of Van towing cars

Very few with slideouts have been built in Europe. The this is the Tabbert Cellini.

900 lbs is awfully light, though I suppose most camping in Europe is in serviced campgrounds so you're not carrying water and whatnot. Not my cup of tea but with the density of people in Europe, or at least western Europe, I suppose that's what's available.
Spot on. It would not work in Australia
