A diesel gets 300 ponies in the 2000 rpm range. Gas needs 4000. Yet new ones are quite, both versions. My new to me 2014 GM 1500 with a 4.3 V6, pulls as well as my BB gas engines from the 80-90 time frame.
Unless your over 6-8000 ft elevation most of the time, a forced inducted motor be it gas or diesel will pull your trailer fine.
I would bet a Ford 150 with an Eco boast in the highest over rating will be more than up to the task with 350-400 ponies and iirc 400+ lb ft of torque. Especially here in salish sea area of Washington.
