Considering the OP was talking about an 8500lb trailer...I was providing a very similar towing scenario (considering I had the truck bed pretty packed with stuff for most of the trip).
Sure if you are talking about a 15k trailer towed mostly in the mountains, diesel starts making a lot of sense. That's not what the OP asked about.
