The Ford is a diesel and the Ram uses gas.
As for a 350/3500 I'd consider one.
The used ford dealer told me the used 250 had a 3.73 rear axle, but I don't that is correct. According to what I've read the diesel came with either the 3.31 or 3.55 rear axle. I'd rather have them say they don't know than give me wrong info.
Also Ford claims that the max 5th wheel towing for the F250 diesel is 16,500 lbs and its max payload us 3120. So do I really need a 350/3500? Don't get me wrong, I'd consider one, I'm just asking. I would think that the 350/3500 ride is more harsh.
Well it would help if you stated the years of used you were looking at makes a difference.
As stated MAX payload and towing numbers are based on a bare bones TV. If you get a loaded TV the payload and trailer weights go down.
That and not what you can pull, it is what you can carry. ALL 3/4 ton 250/250 trucks have a MAX GVWR of 10,000#, so the more weight on the TV with options the less you can carry.
That said the biggest difference between a 250/2500 and a 350/3500 SRW is likely an extra spring leaf and higher capacity tires, AND a larger GVWR on the VIN sticker.
Personally our next TV will be a Ram 3500 DRW, just so we don't out grow with a larger 5er.
