In my opinion offering a 3/4 ton HD diesel is just plain stupid. By the time you load a small family and a hitch in the bed of a diesel 3/4 ton you haven't got enough payload left to pull more than a tent trailer.
really???? on my GMC Denali 3/4ton duramax crew cab 4x4 I can put two motorcycles in the back along with firewood camping gear and 3 adults along with the tongue weight of a 9,000lb trailer (1450lbs) and going over the scales I'm still under 10K lbs. Even my denali, with all the extra's has 2600lbs cargo capacity
Now had a 1 ton short bed SRW crew cab been available I would have bought it, but virtually all the 1 ton SRW in 4 states were long box.
Exactly. So why does the dealer even bother ordering in 3/4 tons? Apparently the Ford is even heavier than the GM. My F350 only has a 3300 lb payload rating with a 11500 GVWR. So a F250 equipped like mine but with only 10,000 lb GVWR would only have a payload of 1800 lbs. Take off 1200 lbs for hitch, family, fuel and a little bit of miscellaneous and you haven't got much left for tongue weight. When it come to towing a fifth wheel it doesn't take much to eat up 3300 lbs let alone 1800. These SRW diesel trucks are designed to tow 18000 lbs .... you need carrying capacity (heavy springs) to make use of that potential. 3/4 diesels should not be offered.
