My 2012 F350 has a 3 inch hitch with a 2.5 inch insert. So nothing new there. It is mainly a PITB to get the insert lined up so you can slide the locking pin thru it.
If your hitch is stock, it is 2.5" hitch with a 2" adapter. Ford started using a 3" hitch on the 2017 models. Mine came with a 2.5" adapter and then a 2" sleeve. Here is a
