All GM (or any other manufacturer) cares is that the engine lasts until the warranty expires. After that you get to pay if the higher wear due to sustained high rpm operation. Just because the engine produces max power at high rpm does not mean it is the best for reliability.
I would like to see the manufacturer's comments regarding extended high rpm operation not just people's opinion.

All I can say is my truck in my sig has pulled 10k+ (it is only rated to 9800) up 6-7% grades at 4000-4200 for 172,000 miles and still gets the same MPGs it did when new and doesn't burn any oil.
