4th Trailer, Jayco Jayflight 26RKS

Pulling the trigger on a 2015 26RKS tomorrow. This will be our 4th TT. Last one was a 27' Nash bunkhouse, that we just didn't use that much, and was more than I really wanted to drag around.

Wife started out looking at small TT's, and ended up back about the same size (darnit, I wanted to stay under 24' this time). We almost never stay in a CG, almost always out in the boonies somewhere, often hunting in very hot or very cold. Kids are mostly grown, so a BH wasn't as important this time around.

Any tips/warnings/etc. about Jayflight, or Jayco in general? Sure seems like can't beat the 2 year warranty. Have a great local dealer, and have a really good outside connection with their general manager.

Thought I had her on a MUCH less expensive 23' Wildwood, but then she perused around the Jayflight, and of course there was no comparison...

  • We've had ours for 11 years now. No major problems. I also have a great local dealer. The small warranty issues we had were fixed right the first time and quick. I too would buy again.
  • I have a 2013 25RKS which is almost the same floorplan - they mainly changed the bath area and the kitchen is mirror imaged. I have been living in mine full time for the past 2+ years and have had very few issues. Granted, I have been stationary during that time but the systems still get exercised. I have a teacher neighbor who has a 2012 25RKS and lives in it 5 days a week for the school year and also has not had any significant issues.

I looked at a variety of trailers before choosing the Jayco. Many did not have the build quality that Jayco does, but a huge selling factor for me is the interior height. I am 6'6" and many other mfgs have interior heights either at that height or less which just would not work for me. The short queen bed is something that I have become used to. I just move the mattress down toward the foot a few inches and leave a gap against the wall.

One thing that I do like about this floorplan is the position of the television. You can easily see it from the couch or one side of the dinette and while in the kitchen.

Anyway - choose what works for you but I believe that you will be happy with the Jayco product.

  • Forest River offers a 2 year warranty on the Surveyor line (maybe others) for $100.

IMO, the Jay Flight is the best bang for your buck out there. While the newer ones aren't quite as good as the models a few years ago, they are still better than the competition.

The only reason I would stray from Jayco is if I couldn't find a floorplan that I wanted.

I see that Jayco has updated their floorplans and done away with some models as the half slide model 28BHS and updated others. They done away with the 26BHS and replaced it with the 27BHS which gets the foot of the short queen bed off of the wall and even extends it to a full size queen. This allows taller people to use the floorplan now, just as your 26RKS.

Forest River's Wildwood is about the cheapest made trailer I've ever seen. Most woodwork wasn't even stapled down or put on correctly, on the several models I've seen. I would definitely look else where.

I will warn you about 2 things on that 26RKS. The first being the rear kitchen, as they are said to bounce more being on the rear of the coach. If you use breakables, that could be an issue.

The other is the short sofa that unit has. If your kids do want to go, it's really to short to be used as a bed. The U-dinette will likely only sleep 1 unless someone wants to get cozy.

Also, you have absolutely no counter space. Even with my limited counter space next to the sink on my 26BH, I can fit a case of bottled water and some items next to it.

In your case, I would probably try the 23MBH. You get your space, but also have smaller single bunks if the kids want to come or your have guests. You're also only at 27' total lenght compared to the 26RKS's 29' length. The downfall to a Murphy bed is that you lose storage.

If your certain the kids won't come or will be comfortable enough together on the dinette bed, I would also consider the 23MDS. It's also 27' but has 2 slides and lots of room.

    Good luck on your decision.
  • We have put over 30 000 miles on our Jayco in the last 3 winters. A couple of issues were handled under warranty with no issues. One arrived just before the 2nd year ran out. I'd buy another Jayco.
  • We have a 2013 Jayco 26BH we bought new in March of 2013. Very little issues with the unit and we never had to return to the dealer. If you haven't found it, join the Jayco owners forum if you need model specific advice.
  • Have a 2011 256RKS and love it. I have put almost 11000 miles on it in the last year with no problems except one flat tire. I think you'll love the rear kitchen.

Congrats, and God bless your travels !
